Monday, 8/4/08 – Back from Vegas!
I'm back from Las Vegas. It didn't go exactly as planned, but it wasn't a total loss either. The good news first: The day I got in, I played in a $340 NL tournament at the Rio (I guess they call it a second chance event.) I ended up playing until the next morning and making the final table. So, the trip started out great and I couldn't wait to get into the next event.
That next day I went over to the Venetian, along with 800 other players, to play in a deep stack NLHE event. Didn't cash, but got into the top 20%.
The next day I played in the $1500 HORSE event back at the Rio. Well, if you're used to deep stack play, this was a real let down. You got 3000 in chips and if you're card dead for a level or two, it is very difficult to regain ground.
I'm not sure if you are familiar with HORSE, but in the Razz, Stud and Stud 8 or better, there are no blinds, BUT there is an ante and the low or high card depending on the game is required to "bring it in" with a forced bet. This can get pretty costly. Anyway, did not do well at all!
The next day, on to Caesars, for another deep stack event… top 20% again, but no cash. Glad for my first day win!
Okay, I still didn't have my seat in the main event and being the conservative (not cheap, there's a difference) person that I am, I just couldn't bring myself to lay out the $10,000. I decide to try the $1000 mega satellite. One out of ten got the seat. There were over 300 players and the top 31 or 32 would get a seat.
I can't believe that I can't remember exactly, though I thought I'd never forget, but bad memories do seem to fade with time… lol! Okay, to hear all the nasty details… you'll have to check out my next blog… gotta go now.
